Scrapping Plans, by Rebecca Seitz, is book three in the Sisters, Ink fiction series. This series explores the lives of four sisters, all adopted by Marilyn and Jack Sinclair. This book focuses in part on the lives of Joy and her husband, who are dealing with infertility. Throughout the book the reader is allowed to see how Joy is processing everything in her mind. All of her pain and frustrations over infertility are communicated clearly. Intermingled with this story line are other aspects of this family, including the new relationship that their widowed father Jack has begun with a woman named Zelda. The closeness of the four sisters is evident throughout the book in the support they lend to one another through every situation.
Although this book was sometimes a bit “busy” for me, its redeeming aspect was the introspective glimpse that the reader is given into Joy’s struggle with infertility. It was a little heavy on dialogue at times, and I would have been lost without the picture of the four sisters on the back of the book. I was a little disappointed that the spiritual focus was not really brought out until the last few chapters of the book. However, it did bring a great spiritual truth in the end, and the book in its entirety was an enjoyable read.
