A Break from Our Regular Programming…
Posted by John Stickley in IMPACT Features
If you’ve been with us for a while, you’ll know that I’ve been working through a series on Family Focused Faith.
Today, I want to take a brief break from that, put on my webmaster hat, and focus on sbc IMPACT as a whole. That’s right… feedback time. That’s always an uneasy thing for we contributors, as we never know exactly what chord we’ve struck… but it’s needed occasionally nonetheless.
So, sbc IMPACT readers… here’s your chance. Fire away with thoughts and opinions on the site.
What are we doing right here at IMPACT?
What are we doing wrong?
Are there any specific topics you’d like to see covered here on the site?
Are there any specific site features you’d like to see?
Is there anything else we can do to make this site more useful to you?
Anything else?
I will ask that you try to avoid being heavy-handed with criticism. While we certainly need it from time to time, I do request that you be gentle in providing such.
Thanks!

I would love to sport a SBC Impact t-shirt and/or hat. The world can where their NIKE gear, so let us wear stylish gear with a profound message.
The blog as a whole is good, it’s civil and certainly thought provoking. I like the fact that you guys keep new posts coming at a steady clip. Maybe you could “feature,” a blog from some of your main readers from time-to-time…(that’s not a hint or anything like that).
And asking for ideas is always a good thing, I too am interested in hearing some thoughts and suggestions. Because we all desire to have an impact for His Glory.

John,
I’ve been considering a re-design of the site that would allow us to do more with the sidebar. As part of that, we can surely incorporate a featured site. Hopefully as part of the effort, we’ll come up with logo that works better with t-shirts, hats, and other kinds of merchandise. Not that we want to make money off the site… we’d offer everything at cost through cafepress or another similar site.
I feel a design contest coming on…
First, I have to say that I’ve really been enjoying your family series, John.
While I like this blog a lot, not as noisy or flashy as, say, a Culture11-type site, it might be nice to see a little more flash and a little more flair. Unfortunately, I don’t really have any concrete suggestions to make. It might be interesting to try to pull in people with more varied opinions and viewpoints to get livelier discussions and force people to reiterate, and maybe reexamine, their basic assumptions.
I like the idea of the associated forum, but it seems not to have really taken off. It seems like it might be difficult for people to change gears from a serious, big ideas, blogging mindset to an informal, chit-chat forum mindset. Or maybe people just don’t see chit-chat as a valuable use of their time.
I have a great idea. Let me be editor-in-chief. By doing so you will help David Rogers and Les Puryear tremendously. As editor-in-chief I will be able to stop them from saying crazy stuff and keep them both focused on writing more good stuff as they do from time-to-time.

And with that last comment, blog detente chills a few degrees…
David,
I was just thinking of what would be best for you.
You know, it is kind of a Vladimir Putin(ish) thing like he was trying to do for Georgia back when he had his guys to invade their borders for their own good.

Ooh, sounds a little too bloody for me.
Now, if you want to set up your own competition site, and see if you can outbid Geoff for my services, we could maybe talk, the good ole capitalistic way.
David,
I must be getting old. Why have I not already thought of that?
We could set up something like on Fox News except with three guys instead of two.
You could be the Mike Huckabee.
Now we just need someone to be Sean Hannity
And maybe someone like Ghandi or maybe Neville Chamberlain.
We could call our blog:
HANNITY ON THE RIGHT, GHANDI ON THE LEFT AND HUCK IN THE MIDDLE.
What do you think?
Now, who could be Hannity and who could be Ghandi?

John,
I believe you would get far more responses to the Posts, if you let them stand for at least 3 days before posting another Post.

You’re doing a great Job. Don’t change anything.
Great blog and well balanced in topics. I tend to agree with those that posting 2-3 times a week would allow more interaction on each post.
The other thing I would mention is that, at least on my screen–the print is quite small and difficult to read. I would like to see the font size increased a bit for easier reading.
Overall, though, a five-star site, keep up the good work!

I don’t know that I buy into the “every few days” philosophy. We have had great posts that we allowed to sit at the top of the page for three days, yet there was no discernable difference in activity.
I still prefer the daily content approach … try to have a thoughtful post waiting for folks each morning. That’s why we work as a collaboration, after all.
Anyhow … great suggestions. Everyone go vote today, and try to do so with logical consistency.
