A Story from the Middle East
Posted by From the Middle East in Church & Missions
For several reasons, mostly to do with my availability to interact with commenters, there will be a break in the Answering Questions series. In its place today I would like to share the following story from a 19 year old college student who travelled with one of our teams to the Middle East this past Summer. I pray everyone enjoys this break from my normally long-winded essays. More importantly, I pray this story encourages, challenges and draws us all closer to God! Here are her words:
It was my first time in a country of the Middle East. I did not know what to expect but I was open for what God had in store. I was paired up with a nineteen year old Muslim girl. I was really excited about being able to talk with an English speaking Muslim who was the same age as me. She took me around town then up a mountain. We got out of the taxi and proceeded to walk down the mountain. I started praying that God would use me in some way to reach her. It was not even five minutes after my silent prayer that she asked me about the Bible. She told me that she had read it before but did not quite understand it. She then asked me to answer some questions that she had. I knew that God was at work. She was so open minded and open about herself that it had to be God. She was so dedicated to her faith; it was encouraging to me to know regardless of the fact that she was a young person that she was passionate about what she believed in. I soon found out that the reason she took me up the mountain was because that was the only place she could ask me questions and not be looked down upon for it. She asked many questions. We walked and visited for about three hours. She thanked me for helping her understand. It was such a blessing to know that I was one of those that God used in that girl’s life. She told me I would always hold a place in her heart and that she would never forget me. She will always be in my prayers and in my heart as well. It was an amazing trip and I was forever changed by that experience.
I would like to add a prayer request as I will be traveling in the Middle East over the next couple of weeks. Pray for love, boldness and ears to hear the Spirit.
