Six Reasons Why I Love Jesus
Posted by SelahV in Uncategorized
Hello, this little gal is my three-year-old granddaughter. She’s going through that phase when every statement you make is countered with a “Why?”
Last night my husband turned the tables on her and asked her why she had a nose. She replied, “to get the boogers out of my head.” When I stopped laughing I decided that is one of the reasons I adore that child. She’s forever making me laugh. Her continual, perpetual “why” drives me crazy sometimes. But it jogged my memory with a post I wrote several months ago.
A friend asked me to participate in a blog-game where we wrote out reasons we loved Jesus. It was really easy. I came out the winner in the game. Maybe you’d like to play. Think about it.
Ever notice how many blogs are written about how we should go about working for missions, developing ministries, teaching doctrines, and doing the business of all of these? We talk alot about the “how”, but only a little about the “why”. In the final analysis of Christian faith, it all boils down to what motivates us. Why we love our Savior, Jesus the Christ. Here are some of my reasons:
- He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and the well from which He gives life is always full and always satisfying. No matter how much I drink of Him, He never runs dry.
- He enjoys loving me in spite of me. He loved me before I loved Him. That is about as amazing as I can comprehend. I know how horrible I was (and am) — you don’t. You never will. But I do, and I know that if Jesus loved me before I ever knew Him, then He is one incredible Savior! He put the meaning into the command “love the unlovely.” And then He reconciled my husband to me through His blood and allowed me to see unconditional love from an earthly perspective of I Corinthians 13.
- He dwells in me, and I in Him and we in God, and I can trust Him to keep us all together forever. And because He gave His life for me and mine and saved us all, I know when I die and go to live with Him eternally, that He has my sons waiting in heaven to greet me. And all my friends and family in Christ will be there with us.
- He is seated on the right hand of the Father, making intercession for me. Without His help, I’d be toast. So I really love the fact that I don’t have to worry over the eternal bun-roast. I’ll be at the banquet table dining on life-everlasting, not because of any good I have done, but because of what He accomplished in obedience to the Father when He died on Calvary’s cross.
- He has “been there”! therefore He can relate to me in every aspect of my life right now, this minute. That gives me greater perspective when I go through trials and temptations. He shows me how to walk through the midst of wolves, sleep in the middle of storms, see in the darkness and hear His voice in the silence.
- His mercy endures forever. So even though I deserve justice, He’s going to give me mercy forever and ever and ever because He doesn’t hold grudges. And by golly, He’s finally got it through my thick skull not to hold grudges either. Mercy’s alot more palatable than unforgiveness. Digests better, too.
These are just a few reasons why I love Jesus. What are yours? selahV

SelahV,
Recently, I have been subtly looked down upon by some. Their understanding of God is well-systematized, their ministries well-oiled, their success well-documented. My life seems much less cut and dried than theirs, my ministry less organized, less thought out, my success clearly veiled (if at all present). I am thankful that, while His Word is clear, His ways and His thoughts are too far above me to ever fully comprehend. I am so thankful that I know the One who can never be fully known. I am thankful, with all my heart, that He has condescended to me; lowering Himself to meet me while never once lowering who He is. That is the number one reason I continue to serve Him. Every day of my life I am doing better than I deserve, not just yesterday, but today, and forever.

selah,
thanks.
also, kids do say it clear and blunt and simple; dont they?
i went to the 4 and 5 yr old sunday school class about two weeks ago to say good morning to the children…as i try to do every sunday. and, after i said hi to the children….one of the boys looked at me and said, “boy, your hair sure looks funky!” which resulted in a lot of finger pointing and laughter. so, i waved and said, “see yall later, alligator.” and, i got out of there with my funky hair.
kids…you gotta love them.

Cyle, Your comment reminded me of something I read from Oswald Chambers:
How others view us, or what they think and say, need to be given importance only in light of what Jesus thinks. That’s how my husband has helped me receive criticism over the years. I like what he emphasizes. selahV
Volfan…children are the fizz in my gingerale. selahV
SelahV,
My Children are forever cracking me up also. The discussions in the car going somewhere are my favorites.
I agree with all of your list especially #2. So often I get in my own way, and do the wrong thing.
I love Jesus for his patience, and the grace he extends to me daily.
Great Article. Blessings!
Amy, I try to journal all the little things my grandchildren say. I journaled a lot of what my children said and did while they were growing up. Those journaled events are so precious to me now since I lost my son. They really make me laugh. They also give his children a snapshot into the kind of character he had. selahV
Well, Mrs. V, you have knocked another one into the cheap seats. How we need to concentrate on Christ more! “Be” instead of “do”, I say!
I am particularly fond of number six. Mercy is something I so desperately need.
And my kids keep me cracked up all the time. I can relate a similar “nose” incident. Lily had her finger up her nose once and when I asked what she was doing, she said, “Scratching my brain.” Taught me to ask a dumb question, didn’t it?
Tony, that’s me…a real Barry Bonds kinda writer. My steroids are Spiritually Injected.
Lily’s comment cracked me up. so funny. selahV
Selah,
Thank you so much. It is not enough to know this – it is to live Him! I was thinking this the other day when I was sitting down with a person, who albeit be a member has never attended once in the twelve years I have been here. His current life was a period of tragic reversals – enough to make a grown man cry in anguish and pain. For three hours I sat and cried with him – and pointing through my tears that there indeed was a God who cared, whose mercy was everlasting to everlasting. Pray for this man – while he has hit the bottom, he does not “feel” anything yet. I fear for him, but know if he will clean to God’s grace, he will receive God’s pardon. I was encouraged to see this person in the services on Sunday – our talk did not go unheeded. God is working on this man, as He continues to work on me. Praise Him!
Rob
SelahV,
I love Jesus because He is my Savior, my Shepherd, and my King.
Yours is a great post and great reasons to love the One who first loved us.
Interesting comments about kids. I love to ask them a question and let them answer from their perspective instead of letting adults try to answer for them.
Everyone needs to have some really young friends to give them a new perspective on life.

SelahV,
He’s got the biggest, strongest, shoulders of anyone I know! He’s been carrying me around on them for a long time now and when I think I’m ready to be put down, more weight is added on and He just continues to carry me without complaint. You should see the long line of single footprints in the sand behind me, footprints that are far too large to be mine!
