Missions IMPACT! Kevin Sanders – Manila, Phillipines

Posted by in Uncategorized

Greetings in Christ Jesus! My name is Kevin Sanders, and I’m originally from Pinson, Alabama. I’m 35 years old and a graduate of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. I’ve spent the past five years in Manila, Philippines. I was with the International Mission Board for my first three years (an agency that I love and respect). The last two years I have been an independent missionary of my home church, First Baptist Pinson. Please allow me to tell you a little about my ministry.

God did not call me to the “10-40″ window. The country where I serve has had missionaries for decades. Regardless, there are multitudes that still need to hear the gospel. I am referring to the hundreds of thousands of college students here in Manila. This is a harvest field in every since of the word. The students often eagerly respond to the gospel. They are simply waiting to hear-waiting to find what religion, personal success or human relationships cannot give them. They are waiting for someone to tell them how to know God personally.God is using missionaries, Filipino evangelists, summer missionaries, and student leaders to reach these students. Filipinos hang out in groups (called barkadas), and that is how we present the gospel to them. Words cannot express the joy of sharing with eight or nine college students who have never known of God’s saving grace. Most Filipinos desire to work abroad once they graduate. Many of our students will be scattered all over the world within a few years. We are also praying for a movement of God that will send Filipino missionaries all over Asia.

A Recent Story

God has recently opened the doors for us to do ministry on a new campus. It all started about two years ago when I noticed some construction near my apartment building. As the months went by, it seemed like they were building a college campus. The building was eventually finished, and sure enough, I saw students! “God,” I prayed, “you have put a new campus at my back door-I can take a hint.” I talked to the school president and asked for permission do to ministry on the campus. The president granted my request, and our ministry began about a year ago.

We have since met hundreds of students through evangelism and seminars at this new campus. Many of them have responded to the gospel. A couple of weeks ago we had our “first fruits” from this ministry-two students who followed the Lord in believers baptism. Baptism can be a difficult step here due to religious barriers. We are praying that many more will follow.
